Hollywood's Dreams
(Rob Christensen)
“Hollywood’s Dreams” was directly inspired by a former television star’s death, and indirectly inspired by many different things: People leaving your life, desires for some sort of stardom and external validation, and the entertainment business machine that chews up the easy marks and spits them into the gutter. The drums were intended to sound artificial, like Hollywood. Later someone told me that he thought “Hollywood’s” drums were the best on the record.
Hollywood's Dreams
Hollywood took another friend tonight
There was nothing we could do about it
She took our hearts, we took her inside
She couldn't scream out any louder
Hollywood's made up like a princess
But her heart is tired and rusted
Hollywood's dreams come in black and white
Technicolor dreams can't be trusted.
Holly, would you come home now
Holly, would you get your head out of the clouds
Holly, would you shine you light down on me now
Hollywood, you call my name out loud.
Hollywood rises from the ashes
Hollywood churns 'em out again and again
Hollywood, you are my everything tonight
I still love you, I don't care where you've been.
(chorus)
Did you sell your soul today
No one's buying, so they say
Don't be down, it's okay
They don't remember yesterday.
Ho Ho, little Jo
Don't you know it's time to go
Take it fast or take it slow
Well I just don't know.
Holly, would you come home now
Holly, would you get your head out of the clouds
Holly, would you shine you light down on me now
Hollywood, you call my name out loud.
