It's All Over Now
(Rob Christensen)
First let me say that this is NOT the follow-up to 'Opera Alley'. This is an outtakes album; a rarities collection. I love outtakes albums like The Who's 'Odds And Sods', Bruce Springsteen's 'Tracks', and Bob Dylan's 'Bootleg Series', not to mention all the bonus tracks that show up on CD reissues these days. When outtakes are released fans are allowed a better glimpse into the frame of mind of the artist at the time they were recording a particular album. With 'The Thrift Store Series' I'd like to think that you can get a better glimpse into my creative process, hear some experiments, and listen to a couple of re-interpretations of my songs in a live setting.
By the way, the recording dates listed, in most cases, indicate the day the recording was started. I rarely finish a recording in a single day.
'It's All Over Now' (6-25-92) - Before 'Smile Slightly' was released I wrote and recorded many many songs using basic equipment - keyboard drums, etc. Here's one of those songs from a long time ago.
It's All Over Now
I can’t hear what you’re saying, anyhow
How can I even see your face unless you turn around?
That’s okay. Just walk away. I don’t mind.
We’ll see how far you get before you come back crying.
It’s all over now. Until tonight, maybe the morning.
It’s all over now. Every time you say the same things.
But it’s all over now. It’s all over now.
Until the next time.
I don’t know why I keep opening myself.
I guess the shine’s worn off of me for someone else.
You keep coming back through an open door.
Time and time again just like the times before.
The walls are getting dingy. It’s time for a change.
This ripped up furniture needs to be rearranged.
We can’t hide the stains from drunken cigarettes.
Hey it’s getting late. Why haven’t you called me yet?
