When She Flies

(Rob Christensen)
She spends too much time looking back
At things she’s never done and never will.
Someday she’ll make the great escape,
Start up again and never, ever tell.
She smiles at her people, tells everyone
She’s doing quite well.
But if she were an heiress, she’d buy her way
Straight out of this hell.

When she flies…
Over the city with the airplanes
Up there they never ask her to explain
Up there they never ask her to refrain

Little girl lost was found
In a place she shouldn’t oughta be.
Living on her own and making strides
In this credit economy
She wants to live her nine lives and go out
In a crashing blaze of sweet glory.
She’ll probably live eighteen and die alone;
A has-been who could never be.

When she floats
Over the ocean on a storm cloud
She never has to worry about being called out.
She never has to worry about being kicked out.

Tomorrow is another day. They say that all the time
Sometimes they’re right.
But other times it’s all the same
Before I’m out of bed I’m all uptight.
Something must be wrong with me
I feel the urge, but I don’t want to bite.
You made your sale, I made my bail,
Take my hand, we’ll slip into the night.

When she flies…
When she floats…
