Promise Me

(Rob Christensen)
Things get a bit serious in “Promise Me” and “Where Red Roses Fall.” While “Promise Me” was the last song to be recorded for the album, it was actually written around the time I did Smile Slightly (1994). The time seemed to be right to record it. It fit. “Promise me that you’ll laugh at every joke I tell.” Yeah, right.
Promise Me

I live out in California
Land of honey, sweet sunshine
Yeah, there are days it rains
A bit more than I'd like it to
'Cause how I love the summertime.

Someday seems like it's slipping
Time makes big dreams fade away
In my yesterdays I
Had my dreams of everything
Someday I will act my age.

Promise me that you'll live forever
Promise me you'll stay awile
Promise me that I can always get a hug from you.
Promise me I'll get your smiles.

Another long cold lonely winter
Another novel down the drain
Another person who just
lied to get my sympathy.
Another song about the rain.

Promise me you won't tell my secrets
Promise me they'll stay inside
Promise me that you'll laugh at every joke I tell
Promise me I'll get your smiles.

I can't wait until tomorrow
No one ever has to know
We'll take our sins and we'll just throw them
to the ocean
Feed them to the undertow.
