Rob Christensen: CDs For Sale

Questions?

Answers:

Q: Why are your CDs so cheap?
A: We prefer to think of them as "inexpensive." They're inexpensive because they can be, and because we want people to buy lots of them. They're CD-Rs that are burned, printed, and assembled at home, so they don't cost much to make.

Q: Homemade CD-Rs?
A: Yep. But the boys and girls of Sweet Science put a lot of love into these homemade CD-Rs. Except for the way they're made and the sticker label, they're just like 'regular' CDs, and we're very proud of them. They come with booklets with lyrics and/or photos, standard jewel cases, and are sealed in neat little plastic sleeves.

Q: Are you ever going to release 'real' CDs?
A: Yes. We figure that the next album will be a 'real', or pressed, CD. Then we plan on reissuing the entire catalog, from Smile Slightly onward, on pressed CDs. So think about it. Do you want to get a mass-produced 'real' CD or a CD-R hand assembled by the actual artist? Let's just say that if I had a handmade CD-R copy of, oh, Iron and Wine's first album, I'd be really happy.

Q: Do CD-Rs sound as good as regular CDs?
A: We believe that they do. Our CD-Rs are burned directly from the original music (WAV) files in Rob C's computer. There's no in-between step, e.g. a CD pressing plant, between the equipment the CD-R was made on and your player.
